Project Overview

We are delivering a package of investment designed to upgrade the wastewater infrastructure in Stewarton.

The works will help alleviate sewer flooding, improve wastewater services for customers and help protect the local environment.

We are taking a holistic approach to all investments in the town, looking at them collectively so that we can share resources and minimise disruption where possible.

Under Water

There is a history of flooding in parts of Stewarton

What We Are Doing

We are upgrading sewer infrastructure at various locations in the town:

  • Barbours Park – we have relocated a storm overflow (SO) and constructed a new underground storm tank to create greater capacity in the sewer network
  • David Dale – we have installed a new SO
  • High Street – we have replaced and upgraded the existing SO
  • Kirkford Bridge – we have updated the existing SO and associated pipework
  • Annick Crescent - we are constructing a replacement storm overflow chamber and associated pipework beneath Springwell Park. When excess rainwater is discharged, the new chamber will ensure any sewer related debris does not end up in the Annick Water.

Why We Are Doing It

There has been a history of sewer flooding in the town and the improvements will help address sewer flooding and the distress and upset it causes. The projects have been designed to:

  • Alleviate flooding in Stewarton
  • Significantly reduce sewer-related debris in the environment
  • Reduce discharges from the sewer network
  • Provide us with more reliable monitoring and reporting data

Community Engagement

In September 2024 we held another drop-in event to update the local community on the package of investment we are delivering in Stewarton.

Members of the community were able to find out about each of the projects and why they are needed and to speak to members of the teams involved.

You can view the posters from this event here.

Update August 2026

Work is progressing well on our multi-million pound package of investment designed to upgrade the wastewater infrastructure in Stewarton as part of our Improving Urban Waters programme.

The investment, which has been delivered across the town in phases, has been designed to help alleviate sewer flooding, improve wastewater services for customers and help protect the local environment.

In order to build further resilience into the network, we require to carry out a further project near Annick Crescent.

This will involve a replacement storm overflow chamber and associated pipework being constructed beneath Springwell Park. When excess rainwater is discharged, the new chamber will ensure any sewer related debris does not end up in the Annick Water.

Work is scheduled to start in September 2026 for approximately six months.
