Improving Urban Waters Launch

Protecting the environment

The investment is designed to protect the community from flooding and improve the water environment

What We Are Doing

We are constructing replacement storm overflows at two locations in Foxbar:

  • Within the grass area between Moorhouse Avenue and Cross Road

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on Moorhouse Avenue for a short time. Further information will be shared with customers ahead of the traffic management being put in place.

  • At the Candren Burn at Meikleriggs Drive

A two-week road closure will be required during installation of the pre-cast concrete SO at this location.

The installation of the new SO at Meikleriggs Drive requires the site team to break out approx. 120m3 of rock. Scottish Water will complete a pre-start structural survey of the surrounding properties and rock breaking will be restricted to 0930-1600 to minimise disruption to those living locally. Vibration monitoring and localised sound baffles will be in place throughout the works to minimise disruption.

Along with associated new pipework, the projects will improve water quality and reduce sewer-related debris to the burn during periods of heavy rainfall.

Both projects are scheduled to begin in September 2026 and should be completed within 12 months.

A site compound to support both projects will be installed off-road in the area at the junction of Moorhouse Avenue and Meikleriggs Drive.

Why We Are Doing It

Working closely with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) Scottish Water identified priority storm overflows for improvement or replacement.

Under the banner ‘Draining the Rain, Enhancing the Environment’ the investment will help prevent sewage related debris such as wet wipes from entering the environment during periods of rainfall.
