What We Are Doing
This project will involve the installation of a new pipeline as well as the construction of a new storm overflow tank.
The programme of work is expected to be completed within 12 months. Roadworks will be required during this time to allow operatives to carry this work out safely. Dates are subject to change and any changes to the work schedule will be communicated in advance. More details about road closures can be found in this poster.
We will be required to close sections of Margaret Walk to all public vehicles in three phases, suspending parking as we move along. The first closure will be in place from Tuesday 7 April for two weeks. Further closures are scheduled for August and September.
From Monday 20 April for approximately 15 weeks, a section of Stewartry Road will be closed to all traffic. This will include the car park on Stewartry Road. This closure is needed so that we can divert a water main, build a storm overflow and safely install additional sewer capacity and two deep waste water manholes.
The footpath on Stewartry Road will be intermittently closed for the duration of the project. A section of footpath on College Road will be closed from Monday 16 March for approximately seven days.
Why We Are Doing It
When completed, the project will significantly reduce the risk of sewer flooding in the area by increasing the capacity of the local waste water network and providing extra storage during heavy rainfall.
Update - February 2026
The initial phase of work began on Monday 9 February to set up the site compound.
A diversion which has been in place to allow set up of the site compound will be removed on Friday 27 February.
We will need to remove trees to facilitate the safe delivery of works and future maintenance of the system. There are three locations on College Road and on the banks of the river near College Avenue. Tree clearance locations are identified on a graphic in this customer letter.
We would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding while we complete this essential work.
