Dalreoch, Dumbarton
Project Overview
We are upgrading the wastewater network at Dalreoch in Dumbarton to improve the environment on the River Leven by reducing spills and preventing sewer related debris from entering the environment.
The work is part of our £500m Improving Urban Waters programme.
The £4m project is expected to get underway in May 2026, completing spring 2027.

The project will reduce spills and prevent sewer related debris from entering the environment during periods of heavy rain
What We Are Doing
We are installing new pipework to carry wastewater flows to a new storm overflow chamber. This will be fitted with a powered mesh screen preventing anything larger than 6mm from entering the water environment during periods of heavy rainfall.
The new storm overflow is being located under the overflow car park of Dalreoch train station to allow the car park to remain partially open during construction to minimise impact on rail users.
The new chamber and outfall will replace the existing ones which are located under the Forge Metal Recycling scrapyard. These will be decommissioned.

Why We Are Doing It
The current storm overflow has been identified as a high priority for replacement by Scottish Water and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
Under the banner ‘Draining the Rain, Enhancing the Environment’ the Improving Urban Waters investment will help reduce spills and prevent sewage related debris such as wet wipes from entering the environment during periods of rainfall.
