Dalgety Bay
Project Overview
We are delivering a £10.7million package of investment to improve and protect the water environment in Dalgety Bay.
Part of our £500million Improving Urban Waters programme, three projects will be delivered in the Fife town over the next two years to alleviate flooding and reduce sewer related debris entering the Firth of Forth.

Investment
The project will help prevent sewer related debris such as wet wipes from entering the watercourse
What We Are Doing
New storm overflows with powered screens will be constructed under Sealstrand and St Bridgets Brae, and 200 metres of new upgraded and upsized sewer pipes will be installed between Couston Drive and St Bridgets Brae.
When excess rainwater is discharged, the new chambers will ensure any sewer related debris does not end up in the bay.
These projects have been co-ordinated for delivery to make the best use of resources and minimise disruption for residents and road users.
Why We Are Doing It
Working closely with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) Scottish Water identified priority storm overflows for improvement or replacement.
Under the banner ‘Draining the Rain, Enhancing the Environment’ the investment will help prevent sewage related debris such as wet wipes from entering the environment during periods of rainfall.
Community Engagement
We held a drop-in public information event at Dalgety Bay Bowling Club on 10 December 2025 where members of the project team explained more about the work involved. The event posters can be viewed below.
Update April 2026
Phased road closures are required on Moray Way South to allow work to be safely carried out on the sewer network running beneath the carriageway.
Road closure dates (subject to change):
Phase one of the closure on Moray Way South will run from 27 April until November 2026.
Phase two will extend the closure to include St Bridgets Brae from 13 July 2026 for approximately four months.
In order to minimise disruption to residents, a new temporary access road has been constructed through Jubilee Park to allow local access to Inchview Gardens, St Bridgets Brae and Dalgety Bay Primary School as the main diversion route is via Moray Way North.
This work is being phased to allow St Bridgets Brae to remain open for as long as possible. More information about the road closures can be found in the customer letter, available to download below.
When completed, this work will significantly reduce debris entering the Firth of Forth, supporting cleaner waterways and a healthier local environment for people and wildlife for years to come.
We appreciate that major construction works of this nature can cause disruption to the community but we have worked closely with a range of agencies including Fife Council and the emergency services to anticipate and mitigate any major issues.
We thank the community for their patience and understanding while our teams carry out these vital works as quickly and as safely as possible.
