Improving Urban Waters Launch

Protecting the environment

The project will help to help manage heavy rainfall, protect the community from flooding and improve the water environment

What We Are Doing

We will be constructing a wastewater storage tank, chamber, headwall, kiosks and associated infrastructure in land west of Spindlehowe Road.

Work will begin on Monday 26 October 26 for approximately 11 months.

In order to ensure the safety of the public and our operatives during this time, Spindlehowe Road will be closed to vehicles south of the junction with New Edinburgh Road with no parking permitted. A section of footpath will also be closed with a diversion route in place to maintain pedestrian access.

Unfortunately, the removal of trees is required to facilitate the safe delivery of the works and future maintenance of the chamber. Tree clearance will commence on Monday 12 October for five days, during which time Spindlehowe Road will remain open.

Why We Are Doing It

As part of the current investment period, Scottish Water is working to improve urban waters in support of Scotland’s River Basin Management Plan (RBMP). RBMP aims to improve water quality in several river basins across Scotland.

These upgrades have been designed to help manage heavy rainfall, protect the community from flooding and improve the water environment.
