What’s happening

We are carrying out urgent sewer repair works, alongside separate emergency water network works, in the Ibrox area of Glasgow.

Urgent sewer repair works are taking place at the junction of Paisley Road West and Govan Road, near Ibrox. These works are required to protect the local wastewater network and prevent further issues.

At the same time, separate emergency works are required on the water network in the surrounding area. These will be managed alongside the sewer repairs to help minimise disruption wherever possible.

Both works began on Monday 9th February.

Repairs on the waste water main are expected to last between four to six weeks.

Emergency repairs on the water main, also on Paisley Road West at the junction of Dumbreck Road and Carillon Road are expected to last between four and eight weeks.

To allow the works to be carried out safely, traffic management will be in place, including a lane closure and restrictions, temporary traffic signals and changes to pedestrian routes around the site.

Paisley Road West carriageway has reopened to westbound traffic, with a lane closure remaining in place to allow emergency repairs to the water network to continue safely.

Access from Paisley Road West to the M8 slip road will remain closed with diversions in place.

Pedestrian management measures also remain in operation. The westbound footpath on Paisley Road West is currently closed between the BP garage exit and the junction with Dumbreck Road. A clearly signed diversion is in place, directing pedestrians via the existing crossing.

Paisley Road West, going eastbound is unaffected. The west bound footpath on Paisley Road West is closed between exit of BP Garage & junction to Dumbreck Road. Pedestrian Diversion is in place via existing pedestrian Crossing.

Due to the location near Ibrox Stadium, additional planning has been put in place for matchdays. Traffic management arrangements will be actively managed, with enhanced on-site coordination and parking enforcement to help manage traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

Delays are likely, particularly on matchdays. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to follow on-site signage, plan journeys in advance and allow extra time for travel.
