Stanley Waste Water Treatment Works Upgrade
Project Overview
Scottish Water is upgrading the waste water treatment works serving the village of Stanley in Perthshire.
Planning permission has been granted and work is due to begin summer 2026 and take approximately two years to complete.

Banks of the Tay
Stanley Waste Water Treatment Works is located on the banks of the River Tay close to the historic visitor attraction of Stanley Mills
What We Are Doing
The scope of the project includes a new pumping station, a new Submerged Aeration Filter (SAF) package to treat 50% of the future flow and loads and a new sludge storage tank.
A new humus tank, which is designed to remove fine solids from the effluent after it has passed through the new SAF biological filter will also be installed.
Environmental advisors have been involved in developing the project from an early stage and will be consulted throughout.
A planning application will be submitted to Perth & Kinross Council and if approved any conditions will be included within the design and construction of the project.

Update February 2026
In August 2025 we held a community event to share updates on the project. The event was well attended and we would like to thank members of the local community who joined us and shared feedback.

Planning permission for the project has been granted by Perth and Kinross Council and work is expected to begin by early summer 2026.
