Annan Road Dumfries
Emergency repairs
A road closure is in place for the safety of the public and our operatives
We are carrying out emergency sewer repair works underneath Annan Road in Dumfries.
The complex nature of these works and the need to carry out a deep excavation mean we have had to close the road between the two junctions with Millburn Avenue to all traffic. A diversion is in place and more information about this can be viewed here.
Update - 16 June 2026
Our teams have been undertaking thorough investigations of the sewer under challenging conditions and preparing an effective design for the repair of the damaged section that ensures the safety of both the public and our operatives.
The work was complicated by the presence of multiple utilities within the excavation, as well as the need to fabricate a replacement section of sewer off-site. This has now been delivered and work to carry out the repair is ongoing.
We anticipate it will take up to four weeks to repair the damaged section of sewer. Unfortunately the road closure will need to remain in place for the duration.
Further investigations are taking place on the wider network locally in order to understand what, if any, additional work will be required in order to maintain and improve the long-term efficiency of the sewer network. We will update customers should any further work be required.
We understand that the closure is causing disruption for customers and road users and we thank everyone impacted for their patience, understanding and cooperation.
Local businesses remain open as normal and our on-site team is doing everything they can to minimise disruption for the community.
